About Portland Gastroenterology Center
Portland Gastroenterology Center (PGC) is a leading private gastroenterology practice in Maine, dedicated to providing exceptional digestive health care to our patients and communities. Our team works together across clinical and administrative functions to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive and professional environment.
The Role
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers direct patient care in PGC's Professional Clinic, working alongside physicians and support staff to manage both episodic and chronic gastrointestinal conditions. In this role, you will conduct clinical evaluations, develop and document care plans, prescribe medications, and help coordinate patient care across the care team.
This is an on-site position best suited to a nurse practitioner or physician assistant with experience in a clinical setting who is comfortable working with a high degree of independence.
What You'll Do
Perform patient follow-up and consultative clinical evaluations, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, preparing complex treatment plans, and treating patients with minimal supervision
Prescribe, approve, and administer medications in accordance with applicable protocols
Provide accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of all services rendered
Assess patient health status and provide health promotion and disease prevention guidance
Work within an interdisciplinary care team to ensure patient needs are met in a timely manner
Review referrals and monitor and assess diagnostics to help prioritize patient care for providers
Resolve incoming tasks promptly, including those directed to you, your pod, or your pod's physician, and maintain incomplete task volumes within thresholds set by the Director of Clinical Operations
Provide leadership, education, and mentoring to clinical staff
Complete special projects and other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
Active Maine licensure and registration to practice as a certified Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN)
Active BLS certification
ACLS certification strongly encouraged
Education and experience:
Master's degree from an accredited institution with a concentrated course of study and clinical internship demonstrating advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice
Three or more years of experience as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
To be successful in this role, you will also demonstrate:
The ability to work independently and manage a complex patient panel with minimal direction
Strong clinical judgment and sound problem-solving skills
Clear, professional communication with patients, families, and care team members
Commitment to thorough documentation, patient confidentiality, and care quality
The ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and workloads
A patient-first approach that includes compassion, cultural sensitivity, and respect for patient and family needs
Physical requirements: This role involves extended periods of both standing (during direct patient care) and sitting (during administrative tasks and meetings). It requires the ability to stand, sit, walk, lift, carry, reach, handle, kneel, crouch, and bend, and to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Close vision is required. This position is designated as OSHA Category A, and the Hepatitis B vaccination will be offered.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Compensation
Compensation for this position will be commensurate with education, skills, and experience, and is expected to fall between a minimum of $100,000 per year and a maximum of $130,000.
Why PGC?
