Duties
Assist dentists chairside during various dental procedures, including general dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery
Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all dental equipment is functioning properly
Take and develop dental x-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, while adhering to infection prevention management protocols
Manage patient records using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as OpenDental, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
Educate patients on oral health care practices and post-treatment instructions while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies
Perform dental instrument processing and sterilization procedures following strict aseptic techniques
Monitor vital signs and assist with medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care
Skills
Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry
Experience with dental x-ray procedures
Familiarity with patient management software like OpenDental for scheduling and record keeping
Understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control standards to ensure a safe clinical environment
Ability to operate dental sterilization procedures effectively while adhering to infection control protocols
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with the dental team and provide compassionate patient care
Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices is a plus for working with young patients
