Duties
Assist dentists during a wide range of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies using aseptic techniques.
Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Manage patient records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance procedure efficiency.
Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort before, during, and after treatments.
Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients as a dental receptionist, and managing medical documentation.
Maintain infection control standards by adhering to OSHA guidelines and sterilization protocols.
Operate advanced equipment like 3D scanners and handle medical coding for insurance claims when necessary.
Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions in clear, understandable terms.
Skills
Proficiency with EMR systems including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and Epic for accurate record keeping.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
Experience with dental X-ray procedures and medical imaging techniques.
Familiarity with infection control practices and aseptic technique in a clinical setting.
Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently in general dentistry as well as specialized fields like prosthodontics and endodontics.
Knowledge of pediatric dentistry procedures and working comfortably with children in a pediatric dental environment.
Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members—including dental receptionists—and educating patients effectively.
Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
Ability to operate dental equipment such as 3D scanners and digital radiography tools confidently.
