Mission Statement:

The mission of the Greenville Rancheria is to continue as a functional viable Tribal government in perpetuity, providing services to its membership and their families through the creation of wealth and personal growth by maximizing Tribal assets, both material and human.

Organizational Structure:
The organizations’ structure is as follows:
POSITION: Dental Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY: The dental assistant collaborates directly with the dentist in the treatment of patients within the designated service population. Works routinely in four-handed chairside dental delivery and takes a variety of x-rays, if certified. Must be eager to learn new procedures and techniques to improve skills. Able to communicate well with patients, making them comfortable in the dental setting and assisting in their dental education. In addition, performs many support functions such as preparing instrument tray setups, light lab work and paperwork to assure the smooth flow of the dentist's daily work schedule.

POSITION OUTLINE:
Physical requirements: An eligible candidate must possess the ability:
Sit for extended periods of time.

Be able to sustain prolonged standing, bending, stooping and light lifting without pain. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Use full range of sense of hearing, speech, and vision.

Display manual dexterity as applicable to position.

Pass all employment physical/medical examinations.

Always maintain a high-level of employee, patient/family confidentiality.

Computer skills, such as NextGen, i2i, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Outlook, etc.

Must be able to use office equipment including fax, multi-line telephone and copy machine.

General qualifications: An eligible candidate must possess (and/or maintain) the following:
Must be over the age of 18 years.

High school diploma or GED.

Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program (preferred)
Understand Dental terminology.

If required to drive a Greenville Rancheria vehicle, must be over the age of 21 and possess a valid California driver's license and a DMV print out verifying a good driving record. Refer to the transportation / vehicle policy and procedure manual authorization of personnel.

Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking with many tasks performed concurrently.

Reliable employment history and highly recommended.

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check / fingerprinting in accordance with all applicable laws regarding the nature of the employment.

Current certification, or ability to obtain certification in CPR.

Ability to effectively communicate in English both written and verbal.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure and to keep records.

Maintain a "Professional Image" in one's appearance and hygiene.

Requires discretion, confidentiality, resourcefulness and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.

Ability to have a good relationship with co-workers in a close environment.

Minimum one year experience. (preferred)
DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES: The following position responsibilities are rated as part of the employee’s competency-based performance appraisal. Within the parameters established by the Tribal Council, approved Greenville Rancheria Personnel Policies and Procedures.

General Duties: Routine Duties (all assistants)
Greets and seats patients, informs dentist that patients are present.

Assists the dentist during procedures, keeping the oral operating area clear, supplying instruments, materials and medications for the dentist.

Assists the dentist with patient management by contributing to the patient's comfort and reassurance.

Assists with patient education in such areas as postoperative and post-surgical care, oral hygiene instruction and preventive dental care.

Takes and processes dental x-ray as requested by dentist (if certified)
Cleans operatory after each patient use.

Sterilizes all dental instruments, cleans, and resets trays.

See that all patient charts are in order before returning them to the front desk. (Doctor's notes entered, health history checked, x-rays in pocket, travel slips complete)
Maintains a professional attitude and appearance while performing all duties. Respects patient confidentiality
Is familiar with the goals and objectives of the GREENVILLE RANCHERIA and works enthusiastically towards their success.

Maintains sensitivity to the needs of the Indian patient and the Indian community. Is understanding of the culture, traditions and history of the service population.

Daily Duties Secondary:
Check calendar in front office for daily work assignments
Check dentist's daily schedule and ensure that all materials and lab work are present.

Assist with overall office procedures.

Responsible for turning on all equipment in assigned operatory.

Keep amalgam trap and vacuum system clean in assigned operatory.

Run cleaning solution through all suction equipment.

At day's end, be sure all equipment in assigned operatory is turned off and that all handpieces are professionally cleaned and oiled.

If time allows, assist dental hygienist with suctioning, charting, etc.

If time allows, assist receptionist with filing charts.

Keep lab work area as clean as possible.

Do necessary lab work for coming days.

Telephone dental labs and be sure all lab slips are completed, copies made for chart, and work is picked up before day's end.

Weekly Duties:
Clean lab completely including model trimmer, lathe, vibrator and ultrasonic cleaner.

Drain and check compressor.

Sharpen dental hand instruments.

Run weekly spore test for Autoclave.

Monthly Duties:
Turn in all certificates and information on continuing education courses attended.

Actively attend all department meetings, in-service training sessions and general staff meeting.

Clean main evacuator traps in large equipment room.

Check and replenish oil level on compressor.

Run check for leakage on central nitrous oxide unit.

Annual Duties:
Keep current CPR card as required
Take adequate continuing dental education to renew all other licenses
Participate in discussions of job evaluation, career mobility plan
Participate in check on front desk skills, adequate cross-training
Review personnel policies
Clinical Duties under General Supervision of the Dentist:
Operate dental radiography equipment for the purpose of dental radiography. (Must comply with Section 1656)
Perform intra-oral and extra-oral photography.

Clinical Duties under Direct Supervision of the DDS:
After adjustment by the dentist, examine and seat removable orthodontic appliances and deliver care instructions to the patient
Apply non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents.

Apply topical fluoride. (May operate under general supervision in a school-based setting, or government run public health program.)
Assist in the administration of nitrous oxide. May not start or adjust the flow, except in the case of a medical emergency.

Cure restorative or orthodontic material.

Examine orthodontic appliances.

Perform measurements for the purpose of orthodontic treatment.

Place and remove orthodontic separators.

Place and remove rubber dams or other isolation devices.

Place patient monitoring sensors.

Place, wedge, and remove matrices for restorative procedures.

Remove ligature ties and arch-wires.

Remove periodontal dressings.

Remove post-extraction dressings after inspection of the surgical site by the dentist.

Remove sutures after inspection of the site by the dentist.

Take face-bow transfers and bite registrations.

Take intraoral impressions for all non-prosthodontic appliances.

Other duties as assigned
