Duties
Assist dentists chairside during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and surgical treatments.
Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental equipment, and ensuring all supplies are ready for patient care.
Take high-quality dental x-rays and operate medical imaging equipment while adhering to infection prevention management protocols.
Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as open dental, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, vital signs, and treatment details.
Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care instructions, and maintain clinical confidentiality policies at all times.
Support patient management by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting with administrative tasks as a dental receptionist when needed.
Follow strict infection control procedures including dental sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques to ensure safety for patients and staff.
Skills
Proficiency in dental assisting techniques with knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy to support efficient clinical workflows.
Experience with open dental for accurate medical documentation and record keeping.
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, dental sterilizers, and other clinical tools safely and effectively.
Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices to provide compassionate care for young patients in pediatrics-focused environments.
Skilled in chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance procedure efficiency and comfort.
Familiarity with infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control expertise to uphold safety standards.
Capable of taking vital signs and performing medical imaging procedures accurately while maintaining patient comfort.
Excellent communication skills for working collaboratively with the dental team including dental hygienists, specialists like prosthodontists or oral surgeons, and administrative staff.
