Dental Assistant II
North Oaks Family Dentistry | North Raleigh, NC
$24/hour to start + clear opportunities for growth
Are you the kind of person who genuinely enjoys helping people, learning new things, and—perhaps a little unusually—thinks teeth are pretty cool?
If so, we are looking for you.
North Oaks Family Dentistry is a modern, independently owned, single-doctor dental practice in North Raleigh. We believe dentistry should be personal. Our goal is to build long-term relationships with our patients, provide excellent clinical care, and create an office where patients and our team actually enjoy being.
We are looking for a Dental Assistant to join our growing team. And here's the important part: you do not need to know everything on day one.
We are happy to train the right person.
What matters most to us is attitude, coachability, culture fit, and genuinely caring about patients. If you are someone who shows up ready to learn, takes pride in your work, and enjoys being around people, we'll teach you the dental skills you need to succeed.
What You'll Do
This is a true team role, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable wearing a few different hats throughout the day when needed.
Clinical / Chairside
Assist Dr. Grewal with restorative, surgical, endodontic, and general dental procedures, including using a TRIOS (Dandy) scanner for major restorative procedures
Prepare treatment rooms and instruments
Take and process dental radiographs
Set up and break down operatories
Assist with sterilization and infection control
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient clinical environment
Help patients feel comfortable and cared for throughout their visit
Learn new procedures, materials, technology, and workflows as you develop
Front Office / Patient Experience
Greet and check in patients
Help with patient check-out and scheduling using our cloud-based EMR, Curve Hero
Confirm upcoming appointments
Answer phones and communicate with patients using Weave
Take accurate notes and document patient conversations
Help keep the schedule running smoothly
In a small practice, everyone helps everyone. There won't be a "that's not my job" mentality here.
Who We're Looking For
You might be a great fit if you are:
Coach-able: You take feedback well and are excited to improve
Positive: You bring good energy to work, even on the busy days
Patient-focused: You genuinely enjoy helping people
Curious: You actually want to understand why we're doing something, not just memorize the steps
Adaptable: You're comfortable moving between the clinical and front-office sides of the practice
Detail-oriented: You notice the little things that make a patient's experience better
A team player: You understand that a great office is built by everyone, but you're also able to work on your own with minimal supervision
Interested in dentistry: You don't have to be a dental nerd on day one—but we'd love for you to become one
Prior dental assisting experience is a plus, but it is NOT required.
If you're motivated, reliable, personable, and willing to learn, we will teach you the rest.
Growth & Training
One thing that makes this position different is that we don't want you to feel like you're stuck doing the same thing forever.
You'll be given a clear skill ladder showing you exactly what you can learn and how you can progress.
As you develop your skills and take on more responsibility, your compensation will grow with you.
We'll work with you to build skills in areas such as:
Level 1 → Foundational assisting & patient care
Level 2 → Independent clinical workflows & expanded responsibilities
Level 3 → Advanced procedures, technology & leadership responsibilities
Level 4 → Highly skilled lead-assistant level responsibilities
The exact progression will be clearly laid out so you always know what's next and what you need to do to get there.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting pay: $24/hour
Opportunities for regular pay increases as skills and responsibilities grow
Paid Time Off after introductory period
Health insurance available after introductory period
Ongoing training and mentorship
Clear, transparent career progression
Small, supportive team environment
No corporate dental office nonsense
About North Oaks Family Dentistry
We're an independently owned, single-location dental practice in North Raleigh, led by Dr. Karan Grewal.
Our philosophy is pretty simple: take care of people, do excellent dentistry, and build relationships that last.
We want our patients to feel comfortable asking questions, understand their treatment, and know that we're recommending what we would recommend to our own families. Our practice is modern and technology-forward, but we believe the most important technology in the office is still a team that listens and cares.
We are growing, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us.
Our office hours are a little tricky, but will likely be changing soon, so don't panic yet!
Every other Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Every Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Every Wednesday and Thursday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., no lunch
Every other Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., no lunch
We do ask that team members be in-office no later than 15 minutes prior to the start of the day, and we ask for flexibility as we may need to stay after close of business, depending on patient care (don't worry, this doesn't happen often!).
The Bottom Line
We're not necessarily looking for the person with the longest résumé.
We're looking for the person who is going to walk through the door and make us think:
"Yep. I want this person on my team."
If you're dependable, kind, coachable, energetic, and excited to learn, we'd love to meet you.
Strong roots grow healthy smiles—and that starts with a strong team.
