Job Description
Overview
Join our dental team as a Dental Assistant or Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA), where your expertise will directly enhance patient care and clinical efficiency. In this vital role, you'll support dentists and hygienists during procedures, manage patient flow, and ensure the highest standards of infection control and clinical excellence. Responsibilities
Assist dentists chairside during various procedures including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics and oral surgery.
Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment following strict infection prevention management protocols
Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans using advanced medical imaging technology
Manage patient records accurately using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
Perform vital signs assessments and medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care
Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment instructions, and preventive care strategies
Support patient management through efficient scheduling, check-in/check-out processes, and maintaining a welcoming environment
Requirements
Proven experience in dental assisting or EFDA roles within a busy dental clinic setting
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental equipment, and sterilization procedures
Proficiency with dental software including Open Dental.
Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while adhering to radiation safety standards
Familiarity with infection control practices such as aseptic technique and healthcare infection prevention protocols
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and educate patients
Certification in dental assisting or EFDA credentials as required by state regulations; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or oral surgery are a plus
Knowledge of general dentistry procedures along with specialized fields like prosthodontics and endodontics is highly desirable
