About this position:
The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing care for and treating detainees in a correctional setting. The Dental Assistant works under the direct supervision, assisting the Dentist and/or Dental Hygienist in chairside dentistry in a correctional setting. Additional responsibilities include preparing and sterilizing dental instruments, preparing and maintaining the dental operatory, operating radiographic equipment, and additional administrative tasks as needed.
Education
Requires graduation from a nationally accredited dental assistant program.
Graduate of a nationally accredited dental assistant program
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a dental assisting program or at least six months of experience in dental assisting
Virginia DA license or ability to obtain
Certifications
Current Basic Life Support
Job Type: Part-Time
Correctional Dental Assistant experience preferred but not required
Ability to obtain a security clearance, to include drug screen and criminal background check
Available shift:
4P-8P - Afternoon/Evening Shift
PRN Availability
General Duties: (not limited to but includes)
The Dental Assistant should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements
Assists the dentist with the treatment of inmates/residents by setting up all instruments for each patient and treatment to be rendered and preparing impressions and filling materials.
After each treatment, sterilize the dental unit and instruments used and replace instruments prior to the next patient treatment.
Control medication, syringes and other dental supplies or equipment; inventory as required by established procedures
Keep equipment and work area clean; utilize appropriate sanitation methods.
Review dental services provided to prevent the inappropriate use or duplication of services.
Review status of inmates/residents for completion of all necessary intervention and treatments and services.
