Job Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Dental Assistant/Receptionist, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our dental practice. Responsibilities
Greet patients warmly, manage appointment scheduling, and coordinate patient flow using dental practice management software and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks.
Assist the dental team during procedures by preparing instruments, taking x-rays, and ensuring patient comfort while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies.
Handle medical billing and collections efficiently by verifying insurance coverage, submitting claims via health insurance portals like Athenahealth or Medicare, and following up on outstanding balances.
Maintain accurate dental records, review documentation for completeness, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
Manage front desk operations including answering phones with professional phone etiquette, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and updating patient information in EMR/EHR systems.
Perform clerical duties such as filing medical records, processing CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes for procedures, reviewing ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding for diagnoses like ICD-10 or ICD-9, and managing electronic health records with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Support clinical staff by maintaining inventory of dental supplies, sterilizing instruments, and assisting with care plans while demonstrating excellent medical terminology knowledge.
Experience
Prior clinic experience in a dental or medical office setting is required; familiarity with dental clinic workflows is highly preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is essential for managing patient data efficiently.
Strong knowledge of medical billing processes including insurance verification, Medicare claims submission, and collection procedures.
Experience with medical coding including CPT coding for procedures and ICD coding for diagnoses (ICD-10/ICD-9) to ensure accurate documentation review.
Bilingual abilities are a plus to better serve diverse patient populations; excellent customer service skills are essential for creating a welcoming environment.
Competency in Microsoft Office applications along with strong clerical skills such as filing, 10-key typing, and phone communication are necessary to support daily operations effectively.
Knowledge of health insurance policies, clinical confidentiality policies, and health information management practices is critical for maintaining compliance and safeguarding patient information.
