Job Description

Join The Smile Room — Dental Care Without the Four Walls
Are you a dental assistant who also knows your way around a front desk? Do you enjoy variety, working independently, and getting out of the traditional dental office?

The Smile Room is looking for a Dental Assistant & Administrator to join our growing mobile dental team.

We bring dental care directly to retirement homes and long-term care communities throughout the GTA — which means no two days are quite the same. You’ll be part of a team that is changing the way seniors access dental care, while enjoying a role that combines clinical assisting, administration, organization and travel.

What makes this role different?

This is not your typical dental office job.

You won't be sitting at the same reception desk or operatory every day. You'll travel to different locations, work with different teams, interact with seniors and their families, and take ownership of a variety of tasks that keep our mobile clinics running smoothly.

We are looking for someone who is flexible about their schedule and enjoys having the freedom to pick up days based on availability. Some weeks may be busier than others, so this position is ideal for someone who wants a casual, flexible role rather than a traditional Monday–Friday schedule.

Your role will include:
Clinical & Mobile Clinic Support
Assisting the dentist and/or hygienist during mobile dental clinics
Setting up and breaking down portable dental equipment
Preparing treatment areas and ensuring everything is organized and ready to go
Sterilization, instrument processing and maintaining IPAC standards
Organizing and maintaining dental supplies
Ensuring equipment and supplies are transported and stored properly
Assisting with patient flow and clinic logistics
Administrative & Patient Support
Answering phone calls and responding to patient/POA inquiries
Communicating with patients, families and Powers of Attorney in a professional and compassionate manner
Discussing treatment options, costs, appointment logistics and next steps
Assisting with scheduling and appointment coordination
Updating patient records and administrative information
Assisting with insurance and benefit-related tasks
Supporting the administrative team with various projects and follow-ups
The “extra hands” factor
Helping wherever needed to keep clinics running efficiently
Troubleshooting unexpected situations
Staying organized when things get busy
Taking initiative rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done
What we're looking for:
Ideally, you have:
2+ years of dental assisting experience
Previous front desk/reception experience in a dental office
Strong understanding of dental terminology and procedures
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Confidence speaking with patients, families and healthcare professionals
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
The ability to work independently and take initiative
Comfort using computers and learning new software
The ability and willingness to travel throughout Toronto and the surrounding GTA
Flexibility to work different days and locations
A positive, professional and compassionate attitude
Experience with dental administration, insurance, treatment coordination or practice management software is a definite asset.

Where will you be working?

Our clinics take place at retirement homes and long-term care communities throughout the GTA.

You should be comfortable travelling to locations primarily in:
Mississauga, Hamilton, Burlington, Etobicoke, Toronto and surrounding areas
Travel is an important part of the role, so this position is best suited to someone who doesn't mind getting in the car and heading somewhere different each day.

Who will thrive in this role?

You might be a great fit if you:
Love the dental field but are looking for something different from a traditional dental office
Enjoy a combination of clinical and administrative work
Like having variety in your workday
Are comfortable working independently
Are organized and naturally good at figuring things out
Enjoy meeting new people and building relationships
Don't need to work the same number of days every week
Want a role that gives you flexibility and variety
Take pride in providing exceptional care and service to seniors
Why The Smile Room?

At The Smile Room, we believe that people shouldn't have to leave their community to receive dental care.

Since 2018, we've been bringing dental services directly to seniors in retirement homes and long-term care communities across Ontario.

You'll be joining a team that is passionate about making dental care more accessible — and you'll have the opportunity to play a meaningful role in that mission.

If you're an experienced dental assistant who is ready to get out from behind the same four walls and try something different, we'd love to hear from you.
