Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Oral Surgery Dental Assistant/Surgical Tech to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience assisting in oral surgery procedures, a strong understanding of surgical protocols, and excellent patient care skills. You will play a key role in supporting our oral surgeons and ensuring a safe, comfortable experience for our patients.
Hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30a - 4:00pm, Friday 7:30am - 1:00pm.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist oral surgeons during a variety of surgical procedures, including extractions, implants, and biopsies.
Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and the surgical environment according to infection control protocols.
Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays).
Monitor patients’ vital signs during procedures and provide post-operative care instructions.
Manage patient records, including documenting procedures and maintaining confidentiality.
Ensure patient comfort before, during, and after procedures.
Handle and manage surgical instruments, supplies, and materials efficiently.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of surgical areas and equipment.
Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling, billing, and inventory management.
Team oriented mentality “All for one, one for all”, working together for the success of the practice and the care of the patients.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified dental assisting program preferred.
Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Iowa dental assisting certification or licensure.
ACLS or DAANCE preferred
Experience in oral surgery or a surgical setting preferred.
Proficiency in taking and processing dental radiographs.
Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and sterilization techniques.
Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning.
Manual dexterity to handle instruments and equipment.
Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
