Responsibilities
Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs and reviewing medical histories in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Assist the dentist during various procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow
Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while maintaining strict infection control and aseptic techniques
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
Review and document medical and dental records accurately using Open Dental
Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout treatments, including vital signs assessment and managing medical emergencies if needed
Qualifications
Valid Dental Hygienist license with current state registration and compliance with licensing requirements
Proven experience in dental office settings, preferably with pediatric dentistry or general dentistry practices
Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding for accurate documentation
Familiarity with dental assisting procedures, chairside assisting, and infection control protocols
Knowledge of anatomy relevant to oral health and the ability to review documentation thoroughly
Experience using EMR systems like Open Dental for record keeping and documentation review
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
