Dental Hygienist

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Performs a complete dental prophylactic service that includes exams, cleanings, appropriate x-rays, fluoride treatments and OHI (oral hygiene instruction); performs clinical tasks such as documenting and recording procedures performed; performs x-rays, full-mouth periodontal charting and oral cancer screenings for children ages 0-19.

Administers approved caries prevention treatments such as sealants to tooth surfaces.

Administers caries arresting medicaments such as silver diamine fluoride.

Educates on the condition of oral health, options for treatment, effects of treating and/or not treating; provides home care instructions including nutritional counseling.

Prepares patient room by restocking, sterilizing, and disinfecting equipment after each use in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines.

Performs basic office tasks such as filing, checking-in/out patients and scheduling appointments.

Provides public awareness of dental care issues in environments such as schools, health fairs, and other public forums.

Provides preventive dental care in alternative settings including K-12 schools.

Mentor pre-dental and community health interns from University of Illinois

Performs other duties as required.

Requirements for Dental Hygienist I:

Certificate or diploma from a school of dental hygiene approved by the Department of Professional Regulation.

Current license to practice as a dental hygienist in the State of Illinois with 1.5+ years of experience.

Able to obtain Public Health Dental Hygienist Certification within 6 months of employment with CUPHD.

CUPHD supports the Public Health Dental Hygienist model and its role in expanding access to preventive oral health services within the community. To support this work, CUPHD will cover costs associated with obtaining PHDH certification, including examination fees, approved travel expenses, and paid work time required to complete the certification process.

Upon obtaining PHDH certification and meeting classification requirements, employees are eligible for promotion to Dental Hygienist II.

A valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance is required.

The expected annual salary is $72,800. Full annual salary for a Class 7 Dental Hygienist I is $72,800 - $77,301 for a 40-hour week.

After completion of probationary period, a flexible or part-time remote work schedule may be considered.

Requirements for Dental Hygienist II:

Certificate or diploma from a school of dental hygiene approved by the Department of Professional Regulation.

Current license to practice as a dental hygienist in the State of Illinois.

A Public Health Dental Hygienist certification and willing to work under a collaborative agreement with our dentist.

The expected annual starting salary is $76,440. Full annual salary for a Class 8 Dental Hygienist II is $76,440 - $87,310 for a 40-hour week.
