Job Description
Overview:
Correctional Healthcare Partners (CHP) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dental Hygienist to provide preventative and therapeutic dental care to an underserved patient population within a correctional setting at the Pierce County Jail. This role plays a critical part in improving oral health outcomes, educating patients, and supporting overall health and wellness.
The Dental Hygienist will work collaboratively with the Dentist and broader healthcare team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with all correctional healthcare standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform dental cleanings, scaling, polishing, and preventive treatments
Conduct oral health assessments and document findings in the electronic health record (EHR)
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed
Assist the Dentist in identifying oral health conditions and treatment needs
Provide patient education on oral hygiene, disease prevention, and post-treatment care
Apply fluoride treatments and sealants as appropriate
Maintain infection control standards and ensure proper sterilization of instruments and equipment
Prepare and maintain dental operatory and supplies
Collaborate with medical and mental health staff to support overall patient care
Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in compliance with CHP policies and regulatory standards
Adhere to all safety, security, and operational procedures within the correctional environment
Qualifications:
Active, unrestricted Dental Hygienist license in the state of practice
Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program
Current CPR/BLS certification
Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience preferred
Strong knowledge of dental hygiene practices, infection control, and radiology
Excellent communication and patient education skills
Ability to work effectively in a structured, team-oriented environment
Preferred Experience:
Experience working in a correctional, public health, or community health setting
Familiarity with EHR systems
Experience working with diverse or underserved populations
Location: Tacoma, WA- Pierce County Jail
Pay: $77-87/hr
Schedule: Tuesday through Friday 8a-6p (10 hr shifts @ 40 hrs/wk)
