Responsibilities
Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
Assess patient health status by reviewing medical history, vital signs, and current symptoms.
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions.
Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and infection control standards aligned with HIPAA compliance.
Monitor and operate dental equipment safely, ensuring all tools are sterilized and functioning correctly.
Communicate effectively with patients to address questions about dental procedures, billing, or treatment plans.
Support patient assessment by documenting medical terminology, vital signs, and other relevant health information.
Skills
Proficiency in dental software systems such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for scheduling, documentation, and record management.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and general dentistry procedures.
Experience with pediatric dentistry practices, including working with children in a compassionate manner.
Expertise in chairside assisting during various dental procedures with excellent patient care skills.
Ability to perform dental x-ray procedures accurately while maintaining patient comfort and safety standards.
Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices to ensure a sterile environment.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR management for documentation review, medical coding, and record keeping.
Excellent client communication skills to educate patients effectively about their oral health needs.
Understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced dental office environment while adhering to infection prevention protocols.
