Duties
Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental x-ray equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
Conduct patient assessments by measuring vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature.
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and dietary advice for optimal dental health.
Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure efficiency and comfort.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
Follow infection prevention management protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and sterilizing dental equipment according to healthcare standards.
Review documentation, medical history, and medical coding to support comprehensive patient care documentation.
Support pediatric dentistry procedures by creating a friendly environment for young patients and understanding pediatric-specific dental needs.
Ensure all dental equipment is functioning properly and report any maintenance issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Qualifications
Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current CPR certification.
Proven experience in general dentistry or dental clinic environments with familiarity in dental assisting roles.
Proficiency in EHR/EHR management systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control practices.
Experience with dental x-ray procedures and understanding of radiation safety standards.
Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively on dental care practices.
Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control expertise including aseptic techniques.
Ability to work efficiently in a team environment practicing four-handed dentistry for optimal patient care flow.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
