Responsibilities
Perform dental prophylaxis, including cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth to prevent decay and gum disease.
Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency.
Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays while ensuring proper infection control and aseptic techniques.
Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term oral health.
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient records, treatment plans, and medical histories in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems.
Follow HIPAA guidelines strictly to protect patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
Support infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments, managing medical waste, and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
Review documentation for accuracy, assist with medical coding when necessary, and ensure all procedures are properly recorded for billing purposes.
Experience
Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a general or pediatric dentistry setting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and medical terminology.
Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly desirable.
Experience working with pediatric patients and understanding of pediatric dentistry principles is a plus.
Previous dental office or clinic experience demonstrating proficiency in chairside assisting and patient care is required.
Knowledge of medical records management, documentation review, and medical coding enhances your ability to succeed in this role.
Certification as a licensed Dental Hygienist with current state licensure is essential.
