Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

a. Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygiene procedures.

b. Prepares patient for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating and draping patient.

c. Selects materials and equipment for dental hygiene visit by evaluating patient’s oral health.

d. Performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides and related procedures.

e. Assesses dental condition and needs of patient by analyzing medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans.

f. Records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dentist and dental staff, as appropriate.

g. Educates patients on oral healthcare.

h. Sets up and prepares dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.

i. Performs patient education, discharge planning and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.

j. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

k. Maintains patients’ dental records.

l. Maintains current credentialing.

m. Completes paperwork in a timely manner.

n. Completes appropriate and timely charting.

o. Participates in quality assurance activities.

p. Attends required meetings.

q. Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Completion of New York State accredited dental hygiene program

Current New York State License

Current Pennsylvania License preferred

Successful completion of training in the identification and reporting of child abuse in accordance with Section 6507(3)(a) of the NYS Education Law

Previous experience in a dental practice preferred

Successful completion of BLS course required

UPC is seeking a part-time/per diem Dental Hygienist. UPC offers family medicine including pediatrics and women's health care to our patients.

This position is responsible for supporting delivery of quality dental care such as debridement, hand scaling and regular cleanings to patients. Provides patients with education and information to assist with developing and maintaining good oral health.
