Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
HealthWorks has officially moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility-unlike anything else in Cheyenne. We are a dynamic, patient-centered Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) established in 2005. HealthWorks has been committed to providing a medical home to patients, where medical, dental, behavioral health services and pharmacists work together in a team-based system of care. We strive to improve the quality of our patient’s lives who would otherwise have limited access to health care.

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Registered Dental Hygienist to join our dynamic dental team. The Registered Dental Hygienist at HealthWorks is a vital member of our nonprofit, mission‑driven dental team. This role delivers high‑quality preventive and therapeutic oral health care to patients of all ages while advancing our mission to improve the health of underserved individuals and families in Cheyenne and surrounding communities. The hygienist provides patient‑centered care to a diverse population, with a strong focus on Medicaid, uninsured, and vulnerable patients, and plays an active role in clinical care, patient education, community outreach, and efforts to reduce oral health disparities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Mission‑Driven Clinical Care
Deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive dental hygiene services to a diverse patient population, including low‑income, uninsured, Medicaid, and special‑needs patients.

Perform comprehensive and periodic oral health assessments, including:
Medical and dental history review
Extraoral and intraoral examinations
Periodontal charting and risk assessments
Provide preventive and therapeutic services:
Adult and child prophylaxis
Scaling and root planning (SRP) and periodontal maintenance
Application of fluoride, sealants, and desensitizing agents
Take and interpret dental radiographs in accordance with Wyoming regulations and clinic protocols.

Document all findings, treatment, and patient communication accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR).

Education, Prevention, and Outreach
Educate patients and families on:
Oral hygiene techniques and home care
Caries and periodontal disease prevention
Nutrition and tobacco‑cessation as related to oral health
Adapt communication and education methods to patients’ age, literacy level, language, and cultural background.

Participate in community outreach activities as needed (e.g., school screenings, health fairs, collaborations with social‑service agencies) to promote oral health and access to care.

Team‑Based, Integrated Care
Collaborate closely with dentists, dental assistants, medical providers, behavioral health staff, and front‑office personnel to provide coordinated, patient‑centered care.

Support clinic quality‑improvement efforts and contribute ideas to improve access, efficiency, and patient experience.

Help maintain efficient patient flow and a full hygiene schedule while remaining flexible to patient and community needs.

Infection Control, Safety, and Compliance
Adhere strictly to OSHA, CDC, and clinic infection‑control standards, including appropriate use of PPE, sterilization, and disinfection procedures.

Maintain accurate sterilization logs and participate in safety drills and trainings.

Maintain HIPAA compliance and safeguard patient privacy and dignity at all times.

Participate in mandatory trainings (OSHA, HIPAA, CPR/BLS, risk management, etc.) and comply with all clinic policies and regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICAITONS:
Required
Current Wyoming Dental Hygienist License in good standing.

Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.

Current CPR/BLS certification.

Proficiency in dental radiography and standard hygiene procedures.

Commitment to the mission of serving underserved and vulnerable populations.

Preferred
Experience in a community health center, FQHC, or nonprofit medical/dental setting.

Familiarity with Medicaid and sliding‑fee programs.

Experience with electronic dental records (e.g., Epic)
Certification to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide .

Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) or experience working with interpreters

Work Environment & Schedule
Community health center clinical environment serving children, adults, seniors, and individuals with complex medical or social needs.

Typical schedule: e.g., Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; occasional evenings or community events as needed.

Requires standing, sitting, and bending for extended periods and regular use of PPE.

Pay: $28.75 - $34.62 per hour
