Dental Hygienist
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Schedule: Monday–Thursday
Position Summary
Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center is seeking a compassionate, patient-focused Dental Hygienist to join our dental team in Jasper, Georgia. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we are committed to providing high-quality, affordable oral healthcare to individuals and families throughout our community.
The Dental Hygienist works collaboratively with the Dentist and dental team to provide preventive dental services, educate patients on oral health, and promote overall wellness in a caring, respectful environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical and dental histories, oral cancer screenings, periodontal evaluations, head and neck examinations, charting, blood pressure, and vital signs.
Take and expose diagnostic dental radiographs in accordance with Georgia Board of Dentistry regulations.
Remove plaque, calculus, and stains through prophylaxis and periodontal therapy as appropriate.
Apply preventive treatments including fluoride varnish, sealants, and other evidence-based preventive services.
Educate patients of all ages on proper oral hygiene techniques, disease prevention, nutrition, and the relationship between oral and overall health.
Collaborate with the Dentist to identify patient treatment needs and assist in developing individualized care plans.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic dental records.
Ensure treatment rooms, equipment, and instruments are cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, and prepared according to OSHA, CDC, and infection control standards.
Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous materials and maintain a safe clinical environment for patients and staff.
Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or safety concerns promptly.
Protect patient confidentiality by complying with HIPAA and all applicable federal and state regulations.
Provide exceptional customer service by treating every patient with professionalism, dignity, and compassion.
Work collaboratively with dentists, dental assistants, administrative staff, and other members of the healthcare team to provide coordinated patient care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.
Support the mission, vision, and values of Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
Experience
Previous clinical dental hygiene experience preferred; new graduates with excellent clinical skills are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of preventive dental hygiene practices and periodontal care.
Excellent communication and patient education skills.
Ability to establish rapport with patients of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative healthcare team.
Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic dental records preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
Current unrestricted Georgia Registered Dental Hygienist license.
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Radiography certification as required by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Frequent use of manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and repetitive hand movements.
Ability to lift, move, and position dental equipment and supplies.
Visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed clinical procedures.
Ability to occasionally work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
