Job Description
Job Summary: The dental hygienist is responsible to perform a variety of oral health clinical procedures and provide oral health education to every patient. A major priority is to effectively clean the patient's teeth which involves removing plaque, flossing, examining the gums for infections or signs of gum disease, and polishing the teeth. Hygienists will also educate the patient on proper flossing techniques, brushing habits, and current oral health education.
Salary Range: $50 to $55 per hour (based on experience)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver comprehensive preventive and periodontal care - including prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing (SRP), gingivitis scaling, oral cancer screenings, Itero scan, sealants, Zoom whitening, Perio Protect, Curodont, fluoride treatments, and patient education - all in alignment with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
Collaborate with the dental assistant to optimize schedule, manage sterilization and room turnover, and support patient care and documentation.
Partner with dentists for hygiene exams to identify and recommend treatment plans based on patient needs.
Proactively drive hygiene production by maximizing chair time, recommending preventive care, and supporting same-day treatment opportunities.
Taking x-rays and intraoral images to aide in treatment planning and note any progress/changes.
Maintain the appropriate amount of CME for licensure
Availability for dental health fairs once a quarter/after or during clinical hours
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Accurate and precise attention to detail, excellent understanding of dental hygiene procedures
Compassionate and caring of patients, good knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques
Able to work in an intense, concentrated environment, calm and cool-headed with a positive attitude
Complies with all office, local, state, and American Dental Association regulations, protocols, and procedures
Degree in dental hygiene from a school accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and American Dental Association
Licensed to practice in state of New Jersey, X-Ray Certification:
Meets all local and state requirements to operate radiography equipment
Understanding of standard practices and procedures with good interpersonal skills and communication
Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite and/or scheduling software
