Job Description
Position Mission The scope of work for Registered Dental Hygienists encompasses a variety of clinical duties which promote excellent patient care in the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease. Dental Hygienist duties revolve around conducting initial patient screenings, cleaning teeth (e.g. removing plaque) and advising patients on oral health and preventative care. As a Dental hygienist you will also help dentists decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies. You’ll be an integral part of our team and will help be a part of providing excellent dental care to our valued patients.
Required Qualifications ● Associate or Bachelors of Science Degree ● Completion of a Dental Hygienist program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation ● Licensure in good standing with American Dental Association (ADA) ● Must have active state Registered Dental Hygienist license ● CPR certification ● Radiograph/x-ray certification ● Motivated, friendly, and energetic ● 1 + years experience as a dental hygienist ● Apply a professional code of ethics and values ● Hygienists must be competent in providing dental care for all types of periodontal classifications. ● Establish realistic goals and treatment strategies to facilitate optimal oral health including: dental hygiene diagnosis, treatment plan, informed consent, case presentation. ● Competency in interpersonal skills and communication. ● Competent in applying ethical, legal and regulatory concepts to the support of oral health services. ● Competent in problem solving strategies related to comprehensive patient care and management of patients. Job Responsibilities ● Strict adherence to all laws, regulations, and guidance including but not limited to the following: OSHA, HIPAA, universal precautions, sharps, proper use of protective equipment, and oce policies/procedures. Presents confusing or conflicting guidance to the manager for clarification. ● The systematic collection and analysis of medical and dental histories, vital signs, extra/intraoral examinations, periodontal examinations, radiographs, risk assessments. ● Review past medical history and all other pertinent oral health information and documents in the dental chart along with updating any missing teeth and treatment previously done. ● Prepare patients for examination and treatment. ● Take radiographs (x-rays) in accordance with established guidelines. ● Conducts thorough oral exams to include mouth, throat, and pharynx, and records patients' conditions in a chart. ● Administers local anesthetic agents. ● Provide oral hygiene services including but not limited to dental prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, sealant application, fluoride application, removal of calculus, stains and plaque, and other hygiene-related services consistent with established oral health care practices. ● Applies fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents to prevent dental decay. ● Refers patients as appropriate to the dentist (e.g. decay, defective dental work, evidence of suspected periodontal disease, or other suspicious growths or abnormalities, etc). ● Provide assistance as directed by the dentist. ● Provide comprehensive oral hygiene education/counseling to patients in accordance with established oral health care practices using materials such as displays, models, toothbrushes, slides or videos, dental floss, disclosing tablets, mirrors, etc. ● Demonstrates proper techniques including brushing, flossing, etc. ● Provides nutritional educational/counseling aimed at preventing and/or treating disease. ● Takes impressions for items including night guards, bleaching trays, and sports/safety mouth guards as necessary. ● Give the patient a hand mirror and ask “Is there anything you would change about your smile?” ● Educate patients about the treatment that is being recommended. ● Checks/maintains instruments to assure proper working condition. ● Cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments as needed. ● Assists in maintaining accurate dental charts and findings. ● Assists other clinicians in providing treatment as needed. ● Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communications, and customer service skills. ● Always meets the standards of professional and ethical conduct. ● Schedules patients for follow up appointments. ● Eciently work with various clinicians. ● Assists in cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep of instruments, equipment, and facilities. ● Assist with dental/medical emergencies as necessary. ● Sterilizes instruments and disinfects operatories between patients. ● Addresses problems and recommends effective solutions with the Oce Manager at the appropriate time and place. ● Assists with other non-clinical duties including but not limited to preparing reports, assisting as needed with telephone calls, reception, etc. ● Coordinates patient workload, readiness, and scheduling. ● Perform other duties as assigned.
