Job Description

We're a few months out from a brand-new office. We'd rather you got here before it opens.

Registered Dental Hygienist · North Orange County, CA · $60–64/hour · Four-day week
Hi. I'm Dr. Kyle Nishimura, and I own Orange Grove Family Dentistry.

Let me give you the real picture before you read one more word. We're in the middle of a full remodel, which means we're working out of a temporary space right now. Everything works. Patients are getting great care and they've been wonderful about it. It's just tighter than we'd like, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. We're targeting the end of this year to move into the finished office.

So you get a choice about when you walk in.

You could wait and take a job at a finished office somewhere, and honestly, no shade — that's a completely reasonable thing to want. Or you can come now, while it's still a little scrappy, and be one of the people who opens the new place. There's a real difference between joining a team and belonging to one, and it usually comes down to whether you were there for the messy part.

I'd much rather hire the second person. That's who this ad is for.

What you'd be walking into
A team that's growing. Two doctors, three hygienists, assistants and a front office who actually talk to each other.

A brand-new office at the end of it. Not a maybe. The plans are drawn, the design is done, the work is happening, and the target is the end of this year. You'd spend a few months in the temporary space and then move into new operatories.

A seat at the table while things get rebuilt. Schedules, blocks, hygiene systems, all of it is getting reset for the bigger office. The people who are here for that get a say in how it works. That's not a perk I can offer again in a year.

Why this seat is open
One of our three hygienists is moving out of the area. That's the whole story — great terms, genuinely sad to lose her, and I'd like to not do this again for a very long time.

Read this part before you apply
Our patients see the same hygienist for years, and that's the entire point of how we run. Somebody who's been in your chair six visits in a row will tell you things they will never tell me. That's how we catch problems early. It falls apart the moment the face in the room keeps changing.

So I'll say it plainly: if your resume shows a new office every 12 to 18 months, or you're temping between jobs and this would be the next stop, we're probably not your place. No judgment in that at all. Temping is a real career and plenty of great hygienists choose it on purpose. But I'm hiring somebody who wants to plant a flag, and the next few months will ask more of you than a finished office would.

If you're the hygienist who's been quietly waiting for a place worth staying at, keep reading.

What the job actually looks like
60-minute appointments. Not a prophy stacked on top of a prophy all day.

You practice real perio. Active disease gets treated like active disease. Nobody here is going to ask you to run a prophy on a 5 mm pocket because the schedule said so.

You take the photos and the radiographs and build the case before I ever walk in the room. Your findings drive the visit — I back them up, I don't override them.

You reappoint the patient in your chair, before they get to the front desk.

Full digital workflow, and new equipment when we move.

What we pay, and what comes with it
$60–64 an hour to start. Posted, so you don't have to guess.

Paid time off. Real time off that you are expected to actually take.

A 3% non-elective 401(k) contribution after your first year. Non-elective means we put it in whether or not you put anything in yourself. It's yours either way.

A bonus plan on top of your hourly, tied to how the office performs.

A four-day week. Monday and Tuesday 9–6, Wednesday and Thursday 8–5, and one Friday a month 9–2. Three-day weekends, almost every week.

Me, in the building, every day. No corporate, no regional manager, nobody emailing you a protocol from an office park two states away. If something isn't working, you tell me and we fix it that week.

Who I'm hoping applies
An active California RDH license, and then:
You bring up perio and adjunctive care on your own. Nobody has to prompt you.

You take feedback without getting weird about it.

You can tell a patient something they don't want to hear and have them thank you for it.

You roll with a little chaos. Some days between now and the move will be tight, and I need somebody who finds that kind of fun rather than intolerable.

You've stayed somewhere before, and your resume shows it.

How we run
Our values spell IMPACT, and they're not wall art:
Integrity — we say it the same day, especially when it's bad news.

Mastery — competent isn't the goal. Good is.

Positivity — steady when the day goes sideways, and during a remodel there are days.

Accountability — you know your numbers before anyone asks you for them.

Compassion — patients are people, not procedures. Same goes for teammates.

Teachable — feedback in, ego out.
