Dental Hygienist position for Foreign trained dentists

As you might be aware, Virginia has approved a bill for Foreign trained dentists to work as Dental Hygienists, starting July 2nd 2026. Even though the details of the requirements by the Board of Dentistry are still underway, we decided to start looking for qualified candidates who want to be hands on in clinical dentistry and work with patients.

We are seeking a foreign-trained dentist to join our team and work as a Dental Hygienist in or after July, once licensed by the Virginia board of Dentistry.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dentistry, patient care, and clinical procedures, with a passion for promoting oral health. This role involves providing comprehensive hygiene services, supporting general dentistry operations, and ensuring exceptional patient experiences within a professional and collaborative setting.

Duties
Perform dental prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and other preventive procedures to maintain optimal oral health.

Assist with patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and dental radiographs using medical imaging equipment.

Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term dental health.

Maintain strict infection control protocols utilizing aseptic techniques and adhering to HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient information.

Document treatment procedures accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Collaborate with dentists during chairside assisting, including preparing treatment areas and managing dental instruments efficiently.

Review medical records and documentation to ensure compliance with healthcare standards and facilitate accurate medical coding.

Conduct routine sterilization of dental tools and manage infection control procedures to uphold safety standards.

Stay updated on dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and current best practices in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry.

Requirements
Valid certification as a Dental Hygienist with appropriate licensing for practicing in Virginia from July 2026 onwards
Prior experience working in dental clinics or offices in the USA as a dental assistant
Proficiency in using EMR systems for documentation review and record management.

Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques.

Familiarity with medical terminology, vital signs assessment, and basic medical imaging procedures.

Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse patient populations.

Ability to work efficiently in four-handed dentistry setups alongside dentists for seamless clinical operations.
