Duties
Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental x-ray equipment, ensuring accuracy and patient safety
Assess patient vital signs and medical history to support comprehensive patient evaluation
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
Assist the dentist during procedures with chairside assisting, ensuring smooth workflow and patient comfort
Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix), documenting treatment details thoroughly
Follow infection prevention management protocols, including aseptic techniques and infection control standards aligned with healthcare regulations (HIPAA compliance)
Review medical records and ensure documentation review aligns with medical coding standards for billing purposes
Support pediatric dentistry needs by creating a friendly environment tailored to young patients’ comfort and understanding
Maintain dental equipment, ensure proper sterilization procedures, and uphold strict infection control practices
Requirements
Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures
Proven experience in general dentistry or dental clinic environments, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred
Proficiency in using dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for electronic health records management
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental assisting techniques
Experience with dental x-ray procedures and ability to operate X-ray equipment safely and effectively
Excellent client communication skills to educate patients clearly and empathetically
Ability to perform patient assessment accurately, including vital signs and medical history review
Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices, including aseptic technique and sterilization processes
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Strong organizational skills for documentation review, medical coding, and managing medical records efficiently
