Job Description
Dental Patient Coordinator – Super Smiles 4 Kids
Location: Portsmouth, VA
Super Smiles 4 Kids is seeking a dependable, organized, and friendly Dental Patient Coordinator to join our pediatric dental team. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and families, communicates professionally, and takes pride in keeping the front office running smoothly.
Open Dental experience is strongly preferred. Previous dental front office experience and knowledge of dental insurance are also preferred.
Responsibilities
Welcome patients and families and provide excellent customer service.
Manage patient check-in and check-out using Open Dental.
Schedule appointments and help maintain an efficient, productive schedule.
Confirm upcoming appointments and document patient communications accurately.
Work recall and unscheduled treatment lists to fill openings and support continuity of care.
Answer phone calls, respond to messages, and explain office policies clearly and courteously.
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, including Virginia Medicaid and commercial dental plans.
Update patient information, insurance details, medical histories, and required forms.
Review treatment estimates and financial responsibilities with parents or guardians.
Collect payments and accurately enter transactions.
Coordinate with the clinical team regarding scheduling and patient needs.
Assist with insurance claims, payment posting, and follow-up as assigned.
Protect patient privacy and maintain accurate, organized records.
Qualifications
Previous dental front office or patient coordinator experience preferred.
Experience using Open Dental strongly preferred
Understanding of dental terminology, scheduling, and insurance verification.
Strong communication, customer service, and computer skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm during a busy day.
Attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a cooperative approach to teamwork.
A warm, patient manner when working with children and their families.
