Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our dental practice. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong background in medical administrative support, and proficiency with various electronic health record (EHR) systems. In this role, you will manage patient scheduling, verify insurance coverage, handle billing and collections, and ensure smooth front desk operations. Your professionalism and organizational skills will contribute significantly to delivering exceptional patient service and maintaining efficient clinic workflows.
Responsibilities
Greet patients warmly and professionally, providing outstanding customer service at all times.
Manage appointment scheduling using dental practice management software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring optimal utilization of the clinic’s calendar.
Verify insurance benefits and coverage details through systems like Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or other EHR platforms; communicate clearly with patients regarding their insurance plans.
Collect payments, process medical billing and collections accurately using CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 codes, and Medisoft or similar billing systems.
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations; review documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Handle phone inquiries using multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette; assist patients with appointment rescheduling or inquiries about services.
Perform administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing patient intake forms efficiently while demonstrating strong typing skills including 10 key typing.
Support the clinic’s office management by coordinating with clinical staff to ensure smooth daily operations and effective communication across departments.
Experience
Prior experience working in a dental or medical office environment is required; familiarity with dental terminology and clinic workflows is highly preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms like Meditech or Epic.
Knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding standards for billing purposes.
Experience handling insurance verification processes for Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurers such as Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) along with experience managing health information systems.
Excellent customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
Bilingual abilities are considered an asset to better serve diverse patient populations; clinic experience is highly valued for understanding healthcare workflows.
