Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our dental practice. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of dental office operations, and a commitment to providing outstanding patient service. This role involves managing patient interactions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and maintaining accurate medical and dental records. The Dental Receptionist plays a vital role in ensuring smooth office workflows while upholding confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Duties
Greet patients warmly and professionally, creating a welcoming environment at the front desk.
Schedule and confirm patient appointments using dental practice management software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft.
Verify insurance coverage, process claims, and handle billing inquiries
Collect payments, process medical collections, and perform billing tasks in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and health information management standards.
Answer multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette while addressing patient inquiries promptly.
Maintain organized medical and dental records, ensuring compliance with clinical confidentiality policies.
Assist with insurance verification, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and Medicare documentation to support accurate billing processes.
Support clinic operations by handling administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing office supplies.
Collaborate effectively with clinical staff to facilitate smooth patient intake and care plans.
Skills
Extensive knowledge of medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and insurance procedures including Medicare processing.
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, or Eaglesoft.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and typing (including 10 key typing).
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person and over the phone.
Familiarity with dental terminology and clinical confidentiality policies to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
Prior experience in dental office or clinic settings is highly preferred; clinic experience is advantageous.
Bilingual abilities are a plus to better serve diverse patient populations.
Knowledge of health insurance verification processes and health information management practices.
Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to review documentation thoroughly while maintaining attention to detail in medical records management.
