Overview

Responsibilities
Greet patients warmly, answer multi-line phone systems, and manage appointment scheduling with efficiency and professionalism
Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance verification processes using systems like open dental/ practice web
Review patient medical records and documentation for accuracy while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA confidentiality policies
Assist in treatment planning by explaining procedures, financial options, and care plans clearly to patients
Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems such as eClinicalWorks or Athenahealth for accurate documentation review and updates
Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure timely patient flow and proper documentation of medical and dental terminology
Perform medical billing tasks including CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, Medicare claims processing, and medical collection efforts
Maintain organized filing systems for medical records and ensure compliance with health information management standards
Support office management tasks such as data entry, typing reports, filing documents, and managing office supplies
Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette while handling inquiries related to appointments, billing questions, or insurance coverage
Qualifications
Proven experience in a dental or medical office setting with strong knowledge of dental terminology and clinical confidentiality policies
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as open dental practice web
Solid understanding of dental insurance processes including verification, billing, CDT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), Medicare claims, and care plan documentation
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations; bilingual abilities are a plus
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and electronic health record management software
Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Previous clinic or dental office experience is highly desirable; familiarity with hospital or healthcare settings is advantageous
Exceptional organizational skills with experience in clerical support such as filing, data entry (including 10-key typing), and document review
Knowledge of health information management standards along with phone communication expertise and professional office etiquette
