Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic dental oral surgery assistant to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will support the oral surgeon in surgical procedures, ensuring a smooth, efficient, and comfortable experience for our patients. Your expertise in dental assisting/oral surgery, infection control, and dental terminology will contribute to delivering exceptional care. Duties
Responsibilities:
Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
Autoclave operation and function.
Surgical tray set-up.
Room prep and break down
Seat patient and perform pre-op set-up.
Review charts.
Perform x-rays/scans.
Nitrous oxide set-up.
Proper positioning of restraints.
Support airway for sedated patients.
Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments.
Monitor patients post anesthesia.
Understand emergency procedures and operation of emergency equipment.
Perform daily, weekly, and quarterly preventative maintenance on instruments, equipment, and headpieces.
Provide excellent patient care.
Perform administrative duties.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Dental Surgical Assistant or in a similar dental assisting role within a clinical setting.
Proficiency with EMR systems for managing medical records and documentation.
Knowledge of OSHA/HIPAA regulations, infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and anatomy relevant to dental procedures.
Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while adhering to radiation safety standards.
Familiarity with dental terminology across specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatrics, and general dentistry.
Experience with medical imaging tools like 3D scanners and understanding of medical coding processes.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks such as vital signs monitoring, medical documentation, and coordinating with the dental team.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with dentists, dental receptionists, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
Certification in dental assisting preferred; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or endodontics are a plus.
