Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the assigned supervising physician, the Dentist supports the clinic by providing dental healthcare service. Responsible to serve as the Dentist in accordance with Title 16 in providing preventative, curative, and rehabilitative dental care to patients and determine appropriate regiment for patient care; able to work independently and make sound judgement; diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums and related oral structures; a quality philosophy and team orientation following the companies' policy and procedures is necessary; maintaining supervision of case management of Community Health Systems, Inc. Dental Centers patients including, but not limited to; referral to appropriate specialists, ancillary services, call backs to pharmacy's and patients as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uphold and support the philosophies, objectives and policies of CHSI.
Will smile, speak in a courteous and friendly manner with clients and staff members.
Examines patient to determine nature of condition, utilizing X-rays, mouth mirrors, explorers, and other diagnostic procedures and instruments.
Offer and provide to all patients' general dental care and services according to current standard of care.
Cleans, fills, extracts, and replaces teeth, using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medication, and surgical implements.
Assists in developing and implementing procedures and protocols to facilitate the delivery of comprehensive dental services.
Initiates referrals to dental/medical specialists and other outside agencies as needed.
Assists in maintaining and implementing protocols for Quality Assurance on a routine basis.
Assists in assuring supplies and stocking of equipment, are adequate.
May be required to work weekends or evenings as designated.
Oversees dental care provided by dental assistants and dental hygienists.
Provides services in the clinic or community setting (other than normal business hours; i.e., health fairs and other community functions) when requested.
Has good "one on one" communication and spatial visualization skills.
Responsible for use of dental equipment and supplies and able to report unsafe conditions, and initiate repair.
Follow all safety requirements of equipment and facility.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may oversee the workload of the RDA’s and DA’s.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent "Customer Service" communications, both verbally and in writing;
Ability to perform tasks related to physical activity that includes lifting of up to 25 pounds, bending , sitting, reaching, standing, and repetitive hand movement;
A high standard of professionalism is expected in speech and manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
A high standard of professionalism and professional ethics and conduct is expected in speech, manner, attitude and appearance at all times.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with divergent groups
Must possess excellent customer service including verbal and written communication.
Ability to deal effectively with changing situations and stressful environment.
Ability to perform tasks related to physical activity to complete the responsibilities of the position.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of Dental School with a minimum of 6 months experience as a dentist and supervisory experience preferred
Licensed in California current as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD).
Current BLS certification
Current DEA license
Must maintain continuing education for dental licensure and upgrading dental skills.
