Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW: Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb exists “to spread the love of Christ by providing quality healthcare to those in need,” based on the recognition that medical bills and unexpected dental emergencies are a root cause of financial hardship, family instability, and diminishing quality of life.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provide professional patient care as a Licensed Dentist to individuals from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds.

REPORTS TO: Dental Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Hygienists, dental assistants, students and volunteers as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Can fulfill the clinic’s mission to spread the love of Christ through quality healthcare to those in need while providing appropriate physical, emotional, and spiritual care for the whole person.

Appoint a departmental committee to conduct patient care review for Quality Assurance purposes.

Responsible for the enforcement of the dental staff policies and procedures.

Responsible for teaching and education within the department, staff and volunteers.

Review and submit prior approval forms for Medicaid/Medicare as needed.

Diagnose and treat diseases of the oral cavity with the aid of biopsy and laboratory tests. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan based upon diagnostic radiographs, clinical examinations and information gathered from medical and dental history.

Perform professional dental work to include restorative dentistry, crown and bridge, removal prosthetics, Oral surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Pedodontics. Administers anesthesia and performs post-operative treatment.

Train and supervise auxiliary dental personnel.

Instruct patients and our community on the importance of preventative dentistry.

Meet all guidelines for continuing dental education.

Meet all HIPAA guidelines and regulations treating patients’ information with privacy and respect.

Lead staff devotions on a rotating basis.

Develop and oversee the treatment plans and communicate those plans to supplemental volunteer dentistsfor implementation with patients.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

JOB TYPE: Part-time (2 days per week)
WORK LOCATION: In person
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited dental program. Current licensure to practice Dentistry in the State of Georgia.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2-3 years Dental experience.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of professional dental theory, practices and regulations to give and evaluate patient care.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.

Knowledge of managing personnel in a compassionate yet effective and efficient way.

Experience in dealing with patients of ethnically diverse backgrounds.

ABILITIES:
Ability to maintain quality control standards.

Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff, and others.

Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others in a way that supports the Center’smission to spread the love of Christ through quality healthcare to those in need.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Combination of dental office and exam / procedure room setting, which is a well- lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

This position is classified as a Category 1 position under OSHA guidelines with high risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.

PHYSICAL/ MENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc.

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Hearing / Speaking: Effective communications with patients, staff and visitors.

Standing: 40% of the workday
Sitting: 20% of the workday
Walking: 30% of the workday
Lifting: 10% of the workday
