Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will support the delivery of high-quality patient care by performing advanced chairside procedures, assisting with complex dental treatments, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Responsibilities
Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency.
Perform expanded functions such as placing and contouring restorations, applying sealants, and taking preliminary impressions under dentist supervision.
Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and materials using aseptic techniques to maintain infection control standards.
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort.
Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for confidentiality.
Measure vital signs and document medical history to assist in comprehensive treatment planning for both general dentistry and specialized pediatric dentistry cases.
Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and assisting the dental receptionist to optimize clinic workflow.
Requirements
Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification or equivalent licensure with demonstrated experience in chairside assisting.
Proven proficiency with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques.
Experience with medical terminology, medical coding, and handling medical records within a dental setting.
Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices and experience working with children is highly desirable.
