Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. Responsibilities
Assist dentists with advanced procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry using aseptic techniques and proper dental terminology.
Perform chairside assisting during various dental treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety while maintaining efficient workflow.
Take and develop X-ray images, including digital radiography and 3D scans, adhering to HIPAA regulations and radiation safety protocols.
Manage medical documentation and records accurately within EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
Measure vital signs and monitor patient health status prior to procedures, especially in pediatric dentistry settings.
Educate patients on post-treatment care, dental procedures, and oral health practices to enhance their understanding and cooperation.
Support the dental reception team by managing appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out processes, and maintaining organized medical records.
Maintain infection control standards through proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to aseptic techniques across all clinical activities.
Utilize medical coding skills for billing purposes related to dental procedures when necessary.
Collaborate effectively with the team in general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Qualifications
Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) credential or equivalent training with demonstrated proficiency in expanded functions procedures.
Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry practices and pediatric dentistry is highly preferred.
Proficiency in Open Dental
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to medical records and patient confidentiality.
Experience operating dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners; knowledge of medical imaging protocols is essential.
Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques necessary for safe clinical operations.
Ability to perform vital signs assessment and support chairside assisting efficiently within a fast-paced setting.
Excellent communication skills combined with a professional demeanor suitable for working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics.
Basic understanding of medical terminology, medical documentation, coding practices, and electronic health records management.
