Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will support dentists during patient treatment, provide high-quality patient care, and perform expanded duties permitted by state regulations. This role requires strong communication skills, clinical knowledge, and a commitment to creating a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures
Prepare treatment rooms and ensure proper sterilization protocols
Take and record patient medical histories and vital information
Expose and process dental radiographs (X-rays)
Prepare instruments and materials for procedures
Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-treatment care
Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation
Expanded Functions Duties
Place and contour restorative materials as permitted by state regulations
Apply sealants and fluoride treatments
Take impressions and fabricate temporary restorations
Remove excess cement and perform finishing/polishing procedures
Place and remove matrices, wedges, and temporary restorations
Assist with crown, bridge, and other restorative procedures
Perform additional expanded functions within certification scope and state guidelines
Administrative/Team Responsibilities
Schedule appointments and coordinate patient flow when needed
Support front office staff as required
Maintain inventory and order supplies
Follow infection control and OSHA guidelines
Contribute to a collaborative, professional team environment
Qualifications
Current Dental Assistant certification/licensure (as required by state law)
Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification required
CPR certification preferred or required
Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and patient care standards
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Experience with dental software systems preferred
