Duties
Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to aseptic techniques.
Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while adhering to safety protocols and HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
Take and develop digital radiographs (X-rays), ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.
Manage electronic dental records (EMR systems) such as Curve, Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
Perform vital signs assessments and medical documentation to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist when needed, scheduling appointments, confirming patient details, and managing patient flow seamlessly.
Maintain infection control standards through proper sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
Educate patients on dental terminology, treatment plans, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment care to promote ongoing oral health.
Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures by creating a welcoming environment for young patients and understanding pediatric-specific needs.
Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as medical coding for insurance claims and updating medical records accurately.
Skills
Proven experience in dental assisting within a busy dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
Proficiency in EMR systems like Curve, Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for efficient record management.
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
Skilled in taking X-rays (including digital radiography) and operating 3D scanners for detailed imaging.
Expertise in chairside assisting across various specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy relevant to dental care to facilitate accurate documentation and communication.
Ability to perform vital signs assessments and support infection control protocols effectively.
Familiarity with medical coding practices for insurance processing and billing purposes.
