JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Job Title: Medical Secretary/Receptionist
Hours: Full-Time 32-40.
Site: Westwood/Mansfield/Easton
Reports to: Administrative Manager
Duties Include:
Greeting patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and professional manner
Check-in patients: collect co-pays, collect past due balances, verify and update demographic and insurance information
check-out patients: schedule return visits, ensure scanning in any releveant forms from the visit, ensure yearly visits are scheduled when due
Coordinating providers schedules and rescheduling patient appointments as needed
verifying insurance eligibility for all incoming visits
sending out necessary screens & surveys as needed for incoming visits
monitoring the sites in-baskets for patient MyChart messages: addressing them or forwarding them as needed
handling administrative work queues and other tasks to support the office
Answering the phones: screening calls for transfer calls, take messages to send and provide general information as needed
Direct patients in filling out record requests and transfer forms
Monitor and maintain the orderliness of the waiting areas
Attend meetings and educational nights as required
Perform other related work as required
Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in reception area. Involves frequent telephone and personal contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant. Contact involves dealing with sick children.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of business office procedures. Skill in operating a computer, photocopier and fax machine. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
Education: Minimum High School graduation with one year of medical office experience preferred.
