Job Description
Our Dentists work weekday, day time hours within our correctional facilities and function as a general dental practitioner, performing the full range of professional dental tasks in connection with restoring and maintaining dental health.

Illustrative Duties:
Performs professional dental tasks related to restoring and maintaining individuals’ dental health in accordance with Article 133 of the Education Law.
Examines individuals’ teeth and surrounding oral structures; and utilizes x-rays, mouth mirrors, and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions.
Treats dental diseases, injuries, and malfunctions of the teeth and gums.
Restores simple and compound cavities with materials, such as cement and amalgam; and performs single and multiple teeth extractions.
Cleans teeth by scaling calculus; and treats teeth, mouth, and gum infections with appropriate medications or by surgery.
Determines the need for dental and prosthetic appliances; studies individuals’ mouths to determine the type of restorations required; takes mouth impressions and bite registrations for crowns, jackets, dentures, and bridges; tries temporary setups; and fits and inserts finished appliances.
Advises individuals about dental health practices.
Maintains written records of individuals’ dental treatments.
Instructs and directs paraprofessional staff in the performance of auxiliary duties; and may arrange for in-service training for dental staff.
Additionally this is a supervisory roll, you will:
Direct and review the work of subordinate staff; completes performance evaluations; and initiates appropriate counseling and disciplinary actions.
Develops staff assignments and staffing plans for dental care; prepares and monitors staff schedules; and ensures adequate dental coverage.
Identify staff development needs; and arranges for or provides staff training.
Review and monitor dental records and documentation to ensure quality and accuracy; and follows up with dental staff when needed to resolve discrepancies.
Consult with subordinate dentists on cases involving acute dental conditions.
Coordinate dental services with other clinical specialties.
Prepare the budget and written reports on dental program services. Orders and maintains dental equipment and supplies.
