Hygiene Assistant

Ladd Dental Group, Inc. is a family-owned dental practice with several locations in Indiana. We are currently seeking a Hygiene Assistant and sterilization tech for our office in Kokomo, IN.

PRINCIPAL PUROSE OF JOB: The hygiene assistant performs a variety of duties for promoting a safe and cleanly environment while providing complete assistance to the Hygienist.

These duties include but are not limited to:
Assisting the Hygienist and Doctors with procedures and charting as necessary
Taking dental x-rays
Reviewing Hygienists schedules and help maintain patient flow throughout the day
Reviewing patients’ charts to anticipate the Hygienist’s needs for each patient
Communicating effectively with patients, coworkers, and management
Maintaining equipment and inventory
Cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging instruments
Following universal precautions, OSHA requirements, and any other state or nationwide regulations
Greeting and seating patients while being friendly and sensitive
Updating medical history, recording all changes, taking and recording blood pressure, getting patients signatures
Reviewing OHI with patient and using disclosing tablets
Notifying the doctor of any significant changes in health
Charting all periodontal info and probing as hygienist directs whether in a paper chart or using Softdent’s electronic charting system
Understanding and properly using all dental equipment listed in Hygiene Book, as trained
Making future appointments 3-, 4-, or 6-month recall/maintenance, pre-scheduling each patient if possible to keep them in the system
Setting up fluoride treatment supplies properly for the patients
Assisting the doctor with exam by recording information given either in paper chart or Softdent’s electronic charting system and being able to access documents in the charting systems
Setting up intra-oral camera when necessary
Obtaining tray from Sterilization and curing light for sealants; assisting hygienist to keep patient’s mouth dry while placing sealants
Knowing and assisting in providing what hygienist needs for different levels of soft tissue management - anticipating needs of hygienist, i.e., floss threaders, proxy brush
Setting up and breaking down units
Cleaning lights on a regular basis
Making sure room is in excellent condition for patient
Knowing and using proper recall exam procedure to give doctor proper notification of recall exam
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certificates/Licenses/Registration Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Registered Dental Assistant Certificate
Certificates, licenses, and registration as mandated by Indiana (e.g., Assisting Certification, CPR Certification, Radiology Certification, etc.)
Maintain annual OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection Control
Maintain continuing education to keep certification active
Skills
Experience in a dental office preferred
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent verbal and written skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment
Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new programs as required
Bilingual preferred
CPR and First-Aid certification preferred
Means to travel from one office to another preferred
Physical
Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods of time
Ability to stand, work, and drive throughout the day if necessary
Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 35 lbs.

Ability to use hands, fingers, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms
Ability to have adequate vision to perform job abilities inluding close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most of the work is performed in a fast-paced office setting with frequent interruptions. Some of the work may be performed at any of the SigNet offices
