This position provides direct technical, operational, and coordination support to the Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, and Dental Therapy programs to ensure the effective delivery of lab, simulation, and clinical learning environments. The role is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and optimization of lab and clinical spaces, equipment, and supplies to support student learning and program delivery.
The position works collaboratively with faculty, clinical coordinators, and dispensary staff to coordinate lab activities, manage shared spaces, support simulation and clinical technologies, and ensure readiness of all teaching environments. This role requires a strong understanding of dental clinical workflows combined with technical troubleshooting, inventory management, and coordination across multiple programs. The scope of this role extends beyond task-based support to include coordination across programs, technical troubleshooting, and independent prioritization of lab and clinical readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Specific Accountabilities
1. Preparation and Coordination of Lab and Simulation Environments
Prepares, coordinates, and maintains lab, simulation, and clinical learning environments to ensure readiness for all scheduled activities across Dental Programs.
Collaborates with faculty to determine lab, simulation, and clinical setup requirements aligned with curriculum delivery
Prepares and stages lab environments including mannequins, dental units, instruments, materials, and digital components
Ensures appropriate setup for a wide range of activities including pre-clinical labs, simulation exercises, and continuing education courses
Adjusts setups to reflect specific learning outcomes and clinical scenarios
Dismantles and restores lab and simulation environments following activities
Ensures all materials and equipment are cleaned, stored, and reset for future use
Maintains organization and functionality of lab spaces across multiple program areas
2. Equipment Operation, Maintenance and Technical Troubleshooting
Provides technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of dental and simulation equipment to ensure minimal disruption to program delivery.
Operates and maintains dental equipment including chairs, delivery units, sensors, radiography equipment, and simulation mannequins
Performs minor repairs and adjustments to equipment when service technicians are not immediately available
Identifies and diagnoses equipment issues and coordinates repair with external service providers
Assists with installation, calibration, and upgrades of clinical and lab equipment
Ensures all equipment is functioning safely and effectively in accordance with program and regulatory standards
Provides real-time troubleshooting support to faculty and students during lab and clinical activities
3. Inventory Management and Procurement Coordination
Manages inventory systems and procurement processes to ensure adequate supply levels and cost-effective resource utilization.
Monitors inventory levels and usage patterns for lab and clinical supplies across programs
Develops and maintains tracking systems (e.g., spreadsheets) to support inventory management and forecasting
Collaborates with faculty to determine supply requirements for labs, clinics, and continuing education activities
Coordinates ordering, receiving, and distribution of supplies in accordance with institutional procurement policies
Conducts product research and evaluates vendor options to support purchasing decisions
Ensures appropriate storage, organization, and rotation of supplies
4. Coordination of Lab Spaces and Scheduling
Coordinates the use of shared lab and clinical spaces to support multiple programs and optimize utilization.
Works with faculty and clinical coordinators to schedule labs, simulations, and clinical activities
Coordinates shared use of lab spaces across Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, and Dental Therapy programs
Supports planning and scheduling for continuing education courses and external events
Identifies and resolves scheduling conflicts and space constraints
Ensures lab and clinical spaces are prepared in accordance with scheduled activities
5. Digital Systems and Clinical Technology Support
Supports the operation and maintenance of digital and clinical technologies used in lab and clinical environments.
Maintains and manages digital sensors, imaging equipment, and related systems
Assists with upgrades, installations, and troubleshooting of radiography and simulation software
Supports clinic and lab computer systems in collaboration with clinical coordinators and IT
Ensures functionality and readiness of all digital systems prior to scheduled activities
Assists faculty and staff with technical issues related to lab and clinical technologies
6. Collaboration and Program Support
Provides coordinated support to faculty, staff, and programs to ensure effective delivery of lab and clinical education.
Works collaboratively with faculty, clinical coordinators, and dispensary staff to support program needs
Provides technical guidance related to lab setups, equipment use, and simulation delivery
Assists in orienting faculty and staff to lab processes, equipment, and systems
Responds to program needs and adjusts priorities to support delivery requirements
Builds and maintains effective working relationships across programs
7. Outreach, Continuing Education and External Event Support
Supports the preparation and coordination of lab and clinical resources for outreach activities, continuing education, and external events.
Prepares and organizes equipment and supplies for off-site clinics and community-based programming
Supports delivery of continuing education courses requiring specialized lab setups
Assists in coordination of NDAEB examination requirements, including standardized setup and equipment readiness
Ensures compliance with external requirements and standards for examinations and events
Coordinates logistics related to transport, setup, and teardown of equipment for off-site activities
8. Continuous Improvement and Lab Optimization
Contributes to the ongoing improvement and optimization of lab environments, processes, and systems.
Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, organization, and workflow within lab and clinical spaces
