Job Description
Mercer Island and Redmond Premier Periodontics is seeking an experienced, motivated, and patient-centered Lead Surgical Assistant to join our growing specialty practice. This role is ideal for a highly organized and proactive assistant who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
This position requires two days a week at our Mercer Island location and two days a week at our Redmond office locations. With a work week schedule of Monday, Tuesday, off Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Off Weekends

Essential Functions
Clinical & Surgical Assisting
Assist the doctor during periodontal surgeries, implant procedures, grafting cases, extractions, sedations, exams, and consultations
Maintain sterile field and surgical aseptic techniques throughout procedures
Prepare and break down operatories and surgical suites according to infection control standards
Ensure all instruments, equipment, and materials are prepared and function properly prior to patient care
Take and manage digital x-rays, CBCT scans, intraoral photos, and other diagnostic imaging
Monitor patient comfort and assist in managing patient anxiety during procedures
Review medical histories, medications, allergies, and health concerns with patients prior to treatment
Provide thorough post-operative instructions and patient education
Patient Care & Communication
Deliver exceptional patient experiences with professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail
Address patient questions and concerns in a calm and professional manner
Ensure smooth handoff communication with front office and treatment coordinators
Documentation & Treatment Coordination
Complete accurate and timely charting within the Electronic Dental Record system
Enter clinical notes, treatment information, and supporting documentation for doctor review
Assist in preparing accurate treatment plans and insurance documentation
Maintain complete and compliant patient records in accordance with HIPAA standards
Leadership & Team Support
Participate in daily morning huddles and assist in coordinating clinical workflow
Help train and mentor new assistants and team members as needed
Provide recommendations for process improvements and operational efficiency
Assist with ordering, stocking, and organizing clinical supplies and surgical materials
Ensure operatories and clinical areas remain clean, organized, and fully stocked
Compliance
Maintains OSHA/WISHA, HIPAA, and infection control compliance standards
Maintains active Dental Assistant registration and required certifications
Demonstrates consistent adherence to sterilization and safety protocols

Proficiency with digital radiography, CBCT imaging, and electronic charting

Education & Experience
Active Washington State Dental Assistant License required
1+ years of dental assisting experience preferred
Previous periodontal, oral surgery, endodontic, or specialty assisting experience preferred
Lead assistant or surgical assisting experience strongly preferred
Reliable transportation required for travel between office locations
