Job Description
We are looking for a Medical Assistant for our Raleigh County clinic located at 101 South Eisenhower Drive in Beckley, WV. This is a full-time position generally working Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am to 5pm. This person will work under the general supervision of our Medical Services Coordinator and direct clinical supervision of the medical staff, he / she will provide services to clients in a clinic setting. He/she will work with prescribing physicians to provide the most efficient use of physician time and services.
JOB DUTIES
1. Prepares medical staff areas for the daily appointments, which includes setting up dictation equipment, accessing client records, and accessing telehealth equipment.
2. Reviews messages and follows up on consumer requests, assists in scheduling consumers in to see medical staff when needed.
3. Performs duties necessary to prepare patient with visit with medical staff, such as obtaining and recording vital signs.
4. Assists consumers in completing Indigent Medication Applications, logs in and files indigent medication when received. Orders refills for indigent medications as needed.
5. Assist drug company representatives to log in and file medications samples. Provides medication samples to consumers per physician orders. Logs out the medication samples on the appropriate sample form in addition to entering information into the consumer’s electronic health record.
6. Maintains schedule of activities in Carelogic; monitors alerts in Carelogic (failed activities, activities not statused, etc.) and resolves issues daily.
7. Completes all documentation timely and in accordance with current processes.
8. Administers injections per orders of medical staff. Completes documentation for administration of injections in accordance with current processes.
9. Monitors, safely handles and stores medications and related medical supplies in compliance with agency policies and procedures as mandated by law. This includes weekly inventory of medications on site and completing forms for any required destruction of medications. Monitors stock supplies and requests supplies as needed.
10. Remains on site as needed until all consumers are seen by medical staff. Turns in all dictation tapes completed for the clinic day and shuts down all medical staff computers. Locks and secures all areas, i.e. medical staff’s offices, med room, injection room, front desk file cabinet, and nursing office before leaving shift.
Additional Duties – Primary Care Specific
1. Assists the physician extender during patient exams. Ensures necessary releases are
accurately completed and updated to allow coordination of the patient’s care.
2. Maintains exam room cleanliness (in between patients and at end of day) and keeps them
stocked, requisitioning items in a timely manner as needed.
3. Maintains clinic schedule and ensures appointments are scheduled within required timelines.
Ensures necessary specialty appointments are made and assists physician extender to
gather/complete necessary referral information.
4. Maintains medical equipment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Formal Education, Certification/Licensure and Other Requirements
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Successful graduate of Medical Assistant Program (that includes training to
administer injections). Certification preferred.
3. Valid WV Driver’s License in good standing and access to vehicle.
4. Must be able to pass all required background checks.
5. Prefer experience working with those with who have mental health disorders
Physical Requirements
1. Frequent communications, verbal and written.
2. Frequent standing and/or sitting.
3. Visually or otherwise be able to identify/observe clients.
4. Ability to perform CPR and verbal and nonviolent physical crisis intervention techniques.
