Medical Receptionist

Job Overview:
Urban Family Practice Associates is seeking a dependable, professional, and patient-focused Medical Receptionist to join our front office team. We are looking for someone who is organized, comfortable working in a busy medical office, and able to provide excellent customer service while managing multiple responsibilities throughout the day.

The Medical Receptionist is often the first point of contact for our patients and plays an important role in keeping the practice running smoothly. The ideal candidate will have previous medical front-office experience and be comfortable with patient scheduling, insurance verification, check-in/check-out, collecting payments, and communicating with patients and clinical staff.

Responsibilities:
Greet and check in patients in a friendly and professional manner
Check patients out and schedule follow-up appointments as directed
Answer incoming phone calls and assist patients with scheduling and general questions
Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments accurately
Verify patient demographics and insurance information
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to or at the time of service
Collect copays, deductibles, outstanding balances, and other patient payments
Update patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Scan and upload documents into patient charts as needed
Communicate effectively with providers, medical assistants, billing staff, and other members of the practice
Route patient messages and calls to the appropriate department
Help resolve routine patient concerns while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
Follow HIPAA requirements and practice policies
Maintain an organized and professional front-office environment
Assist with additional administrative and front-office duties as needed
Qualifications:
Previous medical receptionist, medical front desk, or healthcare office experience strongly preferred
Experience verifying insurance eligibility and benefits preferred
Knowledge of medical insurance terminology, copays, deductibles, and patient balances
Experience with an EMR/EHR system preferred
Strong computer and data-entry skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy medical practice
Dependable and punctual with strong attendance
Ability to communicate professionally with patients and coworkers, including during stressful situations
Comfortable receiving feedback and following established office procedures
High school diploma or equivalent required
