Overview

Duties
Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments for surgical procedures involving oral surgery, implant placement, and other specialty treatments
Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by handing instruments, suctioning, and managing patient comfort
Take and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels before and after procedures to ensure patient safety
Manage patient records accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Dentrix, or Eaglesoft while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations
Educate patients on post-operative care instructions and answer questions about procedures and recovery processes
Ensure all medical documentation is complete, precise, and up-to-date for legal and insurance purposes
Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment by sterilizing equipment and adhering to infection control protocols
Skills
Proficiency with dental terminology and medical terminology relevant to oral surgery and general dentistry
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times
Ability to assess patients’ health status by taking vital signs and recognizing signs of medical emergencies
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with dental team members and educate patients clearly
Prior experience in dental assisting or dental clinic environments is highly preferred
