Job Description

Oral Surgery Dental Assistant
Reports to: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Position Summary:
The Oral Surgery Dental Assistant supports the surgeon in delivering high-quality surgical care by assisting chairside during oral and maxillofacial procedures, preparing treatment areas, and ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the day. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, sterile, and patient-centered clinical environment while providing an exceptional patient experience before, during, and after treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist chairside during oral surgery procedures, including extractions, dental implants, bone grafting, and sedation cases
Prepare and break down operatories before and after procedures
Maintain strict infection control, sterilization, and safety protocols
Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
Take and process dental radiographs, including CBCT, panoramic, and intraoral images as applicable
Monitor and support patient flow to ensure efficient scheduling and timely care
Provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers
Educate patients regarding treatment plans, recovery expectations, and home care instructions
Maintain accurate clinical documentation, charting, and treatment notes
Assist with patient monitoring during sedation and surgical procedures as permitted by state regulations
Manage surgical instruments, supplies, and inventory levels
Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, CPR/BLS, and clinical safety standards
Support the clinical team in maintaining a clean, organized, and professional environment
Qualifications:
Dental Assistant certification required
X-ray certification required
CPR/BLS certification required
Previous oral surgery or surgical dental assisting experience preferred
Knowledge of dental terminology, infection control, and sterilization procedures
Familiarity with digital radiography and dental software systems
Strong communication and patient care skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift and move dental equipment and supplies as needed
Manual dexterity required for handling instruments and assisting during procedures
Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Work Environment:
This position works in a clinical oral surgery setting with exposure to surgical nstruments, sterilization equipment, and patient care activities.

Adherence to all infection prevention and workplace safety standards is required at all times.

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
