Overview

Duties
Assist orthodontists during patient examinations, adjustments, and procedures using dental instruments and orthodontic equipment.

Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly according to dental sterilization procedures.

Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans, ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of medical documentation.

Educate patients on oral hygiene practices specific to orthodontic care, including appliance maintenance and oral health instructions for pediatric dentistry.

Monitor vital signs and assist with medical imaging procedures when necessary to support comprehensive patient care.

Maintain infection prevention protocols by adhering to healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including aseptic technique and dental sterilization procedures.

Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and acting as a dental receptionist to create a positive patient experience.

Ensure clinical confidentiality policies are strictly followed while handling medical records and sensitive information.

Assist with dental instrument processing, ensuring all tools are properly cleaned, sterilized, and stored for safe reuse.

Experience
Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is preferred, especially within pediatric or general dentistry settings.

Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation is essential for effective chairside assisting.

Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix enhances efficiency in managing patient data.

Hands-on experience with dental x-ray techniques, including digital imaging and 3D scanning technology.

Demonstrated understanding of infection control practices specific to healthcare settings, including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures.

Ability to perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve workflow and patient comfort.

Strong communication skills for educating patients about treatment plans and oral health maintenance.

Certification in X-ray or radiography is highly desirable; ongoing training in pediatric dentistry or oral surgery is a plus.
