Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team across multiple locations, including San Marcos and 4S Ranch. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in orthodontic procedures, dental assisting, and patient care, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient satisfaction. Responsibilities
Assist orthodontists and general dentists during various procedures, including bracket placement, adjustments, and appliance management, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques.
Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly according to infection prevention management standards.
Take and develop dental X-rays, including panoramic and intraoral images, adhering to dental x-ray safety protocols.
Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy policies.
Provide chairside assistance by taking vital signs, explaining procedures to patients, and ensuring their comfort throughout treatment.
Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment in accordance with infection control policies.
Support the orthodontic team by educating patients on appliance care, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment instructions.
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth clinic operations across multiple locations while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
Assist with medical documentation and coding related to dental procedures for accurate recordkeeping and billing purposes.
Stay updated on advancements in pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and other specialties relevant to comprehensive patient care.
Skills
Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for efficient documentation and scheduling management.
Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
Experience with pediatric dentistry procedures and understanding of dental terminology related to general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery.
Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners accurately and safely.
Expertise in dental instrument processing, sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and infection prevention management.
Skilled in chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance treatment efficiency.
Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to dental care and healthcare infection control practices.
Familiarity with medical documentation standards including medical records management and medical coding processes.
Excellent communication skills combined with a professional attitude that fosters positive patient interactions.
Ability to adapt quickly in a multi-location setting while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence.
