Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional chairside support during orthodontic procedures, assist with patient care, and ensure the smooth operation of daily clinic activities. Responsibilities
Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments in accordance with infection prevention management and aseptic techniques.
Assist the orthodontist during procedures such as bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings using four-handed dentistry techniques.
Take and develop dental x-rays, including intraoral images and 3D scans, ensuring adherence to dental sterilization procedures and radiation safety protocols.
Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices to promote optimal treatment outcomes.
Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient management software efficiently.
Support general dentistry procedures when needed, including pediatric dentistry, oral surgery assistance, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other clinical duties requiring knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy.
Experience
Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting with a focus on orthodontics is highly preferred.
Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and dental sterilization procedures.
Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic or other healthcare software is advantageous.
Knowledge of infection control standards aligned with healthcare infection prevention and control expertise.
Ability to perform X-ray imaging accurately while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
Strong understanding of dental equipment operation including 3D scanners, medical imaging devices, and dental x-ray machines.
Experience working with pediatric patients is a plus; excellent communication skills for patient management are essential.
