Job Description
Part-Time Orthodontist — Planet Dental & Orthodontics (Dallas, TX 75211)
Pay: $1,400/day guarantee + case-start bonuses
Schedule: Part-time to start, 2–4 days/month (flexible), growing to 4–5 days/week
Planet Dental & Orthodontics is hiring a part-time orthodontist for our Dallas office. You'll run a dedicated ortho bay inside a busy, established general and pediatric practice, with a steady flow of internal referrals from day one. The role starts part-time, and our goal is to build the program to 4–5 days per week within a year.
Why this role
Built-in patient flow. Every patient age 7+ in our general/pedo practice gets screened, so you won't have to build a referral base from scratch.
Room to grow. You'll help build the ortho program from part-time to a full-time schedule.
Dedicated ortho space. 6-chair open ortho bay plus 2 private consult/treatment rooms, within an 18-operatory office.
Modern tech. iTero Lumina scanner, 3D cone beam CT, pan/ceph, and Open Dental.
Trained support. Ortho-trained RDAs and a treatment coordinator handle scheduling, records, and case presentation. Most of our team is bilingual.
Clinical autonomy. You make the treatment decisions; we handle operations, billing, and marketing.
Responsibilities
Clinical
Examine, diagnose, and plan treatment for Phase I (interceptive) and Phase II (comprehensive) cases.
Deliver fixed appliances, clear aligners, expanders, space maintainers, and retainers.
Run adjustment, emergency, and debond visits on ortho days, and direct ortho-trained RDAs within Texas delegation rules.
Take and interpret records: iTero scans, pan/ceph, photos, and CBCT when clinically indicated.
Coordinate with our general and pediatric dentists on extractions, restorative needs, and hygiene before and during treatment.
Documentation & compliance
Document every visit in Open Dental the same day, following Planet Dental charting standards.
Prepare complete Texas Medicaid/CHIP prior-authorization packets, including HLD scoring, records, and narratives.
Meet TMHP, DMO, and Texas State Board of Dental Examiners requirements, and take part in quarterly peer chart audits.
Obtain informed consent and financial agreements before starting treatment.
Program growth
Screen and consult patients age 7+ referred from the general and pediatric schedules.
Run new-patient consults with the treatment coordinator, and present options clearly to parents.
Review monthly start, pending-authorization, and active-case reports with management.
Train and give feedback to ortho RDAs and the treatment coordinator.
Qualifications
Required
DDS or DMD from a CODA-accredited program
Certificate or master's degree in orthodontics from a CODA-accredited residency
Active Texas dental license (or able to obtain before start), current DEA, and CPR/BLS
Enrolled, or eligible to enroll, as a Texas Medicaid/CHIP provider and with contracted DMOs
Eligible for professional liability insurance
Comfortable treating a predominantly Medicaid/CHIP pediatric and adolescent population
Preferred
Experience in a Medicaid/CHIP or community-health setting
Experience with iTero workflows and clear aligners
Experience with Open Dental
Spanish is a plus but not required
New grads and experienced orthodontists are welcome to apply.
