Job Description

Overview
The part-time Dental Assistant and Dental Assistant School student coordinator plays a dynamic, dual role that bridges clinical mentoring and community recruitment for the dental assisting program. On campus, this position focuses on student success and instructional support, guiding students through hands-on laboratory sessions, evaluating clinical competencies, and sharing real-world industry insights to prepare them for clinical externships. Externally, the role serves as a high-energy brand ambassador and recruitment driver, visiting regional high schools to deliver engaging educational presentations and representing the school at community career fairs to generate prospective student leads. This position requires a strong foundation in four-handed dentistry and infection control, combined with exceptional public speaking skills and a passion for mentoring the next generation of dental professionals.

Responsibilities
On-Campus Student Relations & Clinical Support: Within the school, you bridge the gap between classroom lecture material and real-world clinical application.

Lab & Clinic Mentorship: Assist instructors during practical, hands-on lab sessions. You will guide students as they practice taking dental impressions, sterilization techniques, digital x-rays, and proper chairside four-handed dentistry.
· Skill Assessments: Help track and check off student competencies on their clinical skill checklists. Ensure they maintain proper infection control and safety protocols.

Student Encouragement: Act as a relatable peer. Dental assisting school can feel fast-paced and overwhelming initially; you offer moral support, share your real-life office workflow experiences, and help calm their nerves before practical exams.

High School Presentations & Educational Outreach: You serve as the visible "success story" to inspire young adults to consider a career in dental assisting.

Interactive Presentations: Visit regional high schools, career and technical education (CTE) classrooms, and health science clubs. You will present slide decks, play educational videos, and speak about the industry's strong job demand and quick path to graduation
Hands-On Activities: Bring visual anchors to classrooms—such as a dental typodont (teeth model), basic non-sharp dental instruments, or impression materials—allowing high school students to try basic tactile tasks.

Q&A Guidance: Answer student questions about what a typical day looks like, the differences between an assistant and a hygienist, and the schedule flexibility of the school's program.

Career Fairs & Community Recruitment: You are the high-energy representative driving lead generation and building the school's local pipeline.

Booth Setup & Operations: Manage the school’s promotional table at regional career fairs, community expos, and job markets. Arrange pamphlets, catalog request forms, program syllabi, and branded promotional items.

Lead Generation: Proactively engage with passersby, collect contact information (emails/phone numbers) from interested prospects, and route them to the school's admissions or program director.

Networking: Connect with high school guidance counselors, workforce development representatives, and local dental practices visiting the fair to promote the school's upcoming graduates for potential externship placements.

Experience
Active Dental Assisting Experience: A minimum of 5 years of recent, clinical experience working chairside in a dental practice. Candidates must be highly proficient in four-handed dentistry, digital radiographs (X-rays), dental materials, and strict OSHA infection control protocols.

Public Speaking or Presentation Experience: Prior experience presenting to groups, such as speaking to students, training coworkers, or leading community volunteer events. The candidate must feel confident commanding a classroom of high school students.

Customer-Facing or Marketing Exposure: Experience in a role that requires active engagement, such as recruitment, brand ambassadorship, sales, or public relations, is highly preferred to effectively drive lead generation at career fairs.

Training or Mentoring History: While formal teaching experience is rarely required, preference is given to candidates who have trained new hires or supervised dental assisting externs in their previous clinical offices.
